A two-minute-and-forty-three-second blast of hooks, spirit and brutal joy

Classic Face are back, and this time they’re not here to panic.
Following their explosive debut single Pneumasthmatic, Perth’s new wave four-piece Classic Face return with Let’s Get To It, a relentlessly upbeat, unapologetically earnest rush of hooks, energy and spirit. Out October 16 via Auxiliary Records, the new single asks a deceptively simple question: just how much joy, momentum and pop music can you cram into 2 minutes and 43 seconds?
Apparently, quite a lot. If Pneumasthmatic was a nervous breakdown you could dance to, Let’s Get To It is what happens when you decide to dance anyway.
Built around the band's trademark high-intensity approach, the track is bursting at the seams with hooks, propulsion and the kind of infectious optimism that feels almost radical. It is earnest without being saccharine, upbeat without being lightweight, and relentlessly forward-moving from its opening moments.
Classic Face describes it as “a cathedral built on 10m square land”. An attempt to cram an enormous amount of feeling, spirit and life into a tiny space.
And that is exactly what Let’s Get To It sounds like.
It is the anthem for young families, for people trying to keep everything moving, for the brutal joy of ordinary life when there simply isn't enough room for everything you're carrying. There are no grand gestures or unnecessary detours, just the feeling of being completely overwhelmed by life and deciding, somehow, to throw yourself into it anyway.
Classic Face first introduced themselves in June with Pneumasthmatic, a spiralling burst of new wave panic-pop that announced a band uninterested in restraint. The debut was described by Good Call Live as “a spiralling, high-voltage burst of new wave panic-pop,” while Sounds of Oz highlighted the band's Talking Heads, Devo and LCD Soundsystem influences, alongside their bright synths, driving drums and increasingly compelling lyrical themes of anxiety and perseverance.
With Let’s Get To It, the band reveals another side of that same world: the joy underneath the struggle.
Classic Face are Michael Strong (vocals, keys, samples), Veronica Zurzolo (bass, vocals), Axel Carrington (guitar) and Mick Colangelo (drums). The band's music is composed, performed and arranged collectively in the rehearsal room, with Strong writing the lyrics and producing, engineering, mixing and mastering the recordings.
The release of Let’s Get To It will be celebrated with Classic Face's first headline show at The Bird on Friday, 23 October, with Gap Year, Figurehead and Georgina Dacheff joining the bill. More info via Facebook
