Cahli Samata releases ‘Blink Back’
A cosmic call into the void

Blending cinematic pop with otherworldly textures, Australian artist Cahli Samata returns with Blink Back, a luminous and emotionally charged new single that captures the quiet tension between hope and uncertainty - out 22 May.
Known for crafting “cosmic pop for people trying to find their colour again,” Cahli Samata builds immersive sonic worlds shaped by myth, glamour, and emotional intensity. Her music exists in a space where vulnerability meets scale, drawing listeners into a universe that glows in neon, pulses with feeling, and invites listeners to step inside.
Blink Back is a transmission sent into the unknown, a signal of faith, longing, and persistence in the face of silence. The release marks a pivotal moment in her artistic journey: a song born of doubt but carried by belief.
“Blink Back is about navigating spiritual silence: showing up for your purpose, doing the work, and waiting for a sign that you’re on the right path.
I wrote it during a period of intense uncertainty, both in my personal life and in my relationship with music. I was questioning everything: my choices, my direction, and whether everything I was reaching for would ever reach back.
The title and concept came from the idea of light as a signal. In The Great Gatsby, Gatsby stares across the water at a distant light, holding onto it as a representation of his greatest dream. I was drawn to that imagery, and to the idea of sending a signal out into the dark, like a flare or a Morse code light, not knowing if anything will answer and having only hope to hold onto.
That’s what Blink Back is. A call sent out, a cry in the night, waiting for something to respond.”
Co-written and produced by Byron Keno, the track came together quickly and organically, capturing the raw immediacy of its emotional core. Cahli shares, “I had gone into the studio to work on a different song I’d been struggling with for a long time, and ended up overwhelmed and frustrated. My producer suggested we step away from it, and work on something else, so I shared a voice note I had of “Blink Back.” We built the entire demo in the remainder of that session.”
Cahli Samata’s work is deeply rooted in connection: to self, to others, and to those who exist beyond the physical world. Originally turning to music as a way to communicate with loved ones no longer here, her songwriting continues to act as a vessel, a bridge between realms, offering listeners a space to feel seen, held, and understood.
Blink Back is more than a song. It’s a message in the dark, waiting for a sign, for a connection, for someone or something to blink back.
