Perth-based English songwriter Frederick James unveils his debut EP, Let Me Give You A Good Day, alongside its powerful lead single, Pound of Flesh. Out 14 August, the release is a deeply personal collection of songs that reflect on hardship, healing and the quiet resilience found in everyday life.
Across four tracks, Let Me Give You A Good Day introduces the first chapter of Frederick's songwriting journey, pairing emotionally honest storytelling with warm indie-folk production. Influenced by the melodic songwriting of Noel Gallagher and the vulnerability of Noah Kahan and Zach Bryan, the EP explores family, fatherhood, uncertainty and hope with remarkable sincerity.
Leading the release is Pound of Flesh. "We've all had those times where it feels like life's taken its pound of flesh," says Frederick. "This song's about getting through those days and believing better ones are coming."
The EP arrives following an extraordinary creative period for Frederick. After a life-changing chapter in 2024 transformed both his personal life and his relationship with songwriting, he committed himself to writing with unwavering consistency, creating more than 300 songs to date, including over 230 written in just six months.
Throughout 2025, Frederick also performed more than 75 open mic sets, using live performance as both a testing ground for new material and a way of allowing songs to evolve naturally in front of audiences. Alongside sharing works in progress across social media, this daily creative practice has become the foundation of an ever-growing catalogue rooted in authenticity rather than perfection.
Written by Frederick James, the EP was produced and mixed by Patrick Carre and Simon Groves at Artisan Studios and mastered at Studio 301.
"These four songs are an early glimpse into a much bigger body of work," Frederick shares. "They're the first chapter of a catalogue built around ordinary life, difficult years, hope and the stories that shape us."
Following previous singles Walking Through Hell, Under The Clocks and Let Me Give You A Good Day, the EP marks the beginning of Frederick's journey as an artist, showcasing a songwriter whose greatest strength lies in transforming deeply personal, yet relatable experiences into songs that resonate, comfort, and inspire.
With a debut full-length album already taking shape, Let Me Give You A Good Day is not a destination, but the beginning of a much larger story.
Frederick James's debut EP, with lead single ‘Pound of Flesh’, is out 14 August.
