Frederick James introduces himself with debut ‘Walking Through Hell’

Walking Through Hell - out 20 February, is the debut release from Frederick James, a musician/ songwriter emerging with a quiet confidence built through persistence, repetition and a deep commitment to the craft.

Anchored by acoustic guitar and straightforward storytelling, the single draws inspiration from the songwriting instincts of Noel Gallagher and the raw, conversational honesty of Zach Bryan. It’s an unguarded and resilient song that leaves space for listeners to bring their own meaning, rather than spelling everything out.

The release follows an intense and highly focused period of creative output. Throughout 2025, Frederick James performed 75 open mic sets, using live performance as a testing ground for new material and an opportunity to sit with songs as they evolved. These performances became part of a wider daily practice, writing, refining and returning to ideas again and again.

To date, Frederick has written 265 songs, with 225 completed in the past six months alone. Much of this process has been shared publicly via Instagram, where he has posted content documenting songs, performances and works in progress. Rather than presenting finished statements, these posts offer an unfiltered look at the act of showing up and making work consistently.

Rather than positioning Walking Through Hell as a definitive statement, Frederick sees it as the first step in establishing a sustainable creative rhythm. The single is the first of two recorded releases, with more music to follow.

The single was written by Frederick James, produced by Patrick Carre and Simon Groves, and mixed at Artisan Studios

As a debut release, Walking Through Hell introduces Frederick James through presence rather than explanation, a song shaped by repetition, honesty and time, inviting listeners to take from it whatever resonates.

Frederick James' single ‘Walking Through Hell’ is out 20 February.
