Naarm/Melbourne lo-fi bedroom pop duo boredslide share their new single handshake, continuing their Limited Express Tape release series, a fast-moving 26-track run across 2026.

A concise, off-kilter pop song, handshake explores compromise, conflict and uneasy resolutions, and arrives Friday, 20 February with an accompanying music video.

Comprised of Carlos Tinsey (Kitschen Boy, DIET) and producer Nick Bond, boredslide craft concise, hook-laden songs built from jangle-heavy guitars, off-kilter samples and a dry, deadpan sense of humour. Their music captures the high-pressure realities of everyday life with a balance of lightness and unease.

Sonically, handshake draws from the lo-fi and bedroom pop lineage of the Spirit Goth catalogue, with nods to Castlebeat, Mac DeMarco, and Memo Boy. Fans of vhs sports, highschool, surf curse and Castlebeat will feel right at home.

“The song is about finding common ground and settling differences, even in the most antagonistic or dire settings… The music came about fairly organically after listening to some of the formentioned records for inspiration, but the vocal delivery in particular was heavily inspired by low register indie crooners such as The Magnetic Fields, Ariel Pink, and John Maus.”

handshake continues the duo’s Limited Express Tape project, a fast-moving, ultra-DIY release schedule that will see boredslide share 26 songs across 2026. The series prioritises momentum, texture and small but sharp observations, embracing spontaneity over polish.

Written, produced and performed entirely by boredslide, handshake exemplifies the duo’s stripped-back, self-contained approach, intimate, melodic and quietly confrontational. They share “The recording process was much the same as the rest of the material - ultra-DIY, with all of the instruments and vocals recorded by the two of us in Nick's bedroom studio”

The music video,  filmed and edited by Thomas Marchesani (@camcord.video), will be released alongside the single on 20February. The duo shares “The music video references the themes of battles and concessions directly, whilst also tying the band visually to the Melbourne CBD.”

boredslide’s new single handshake is out 20 February.
