Australia’s most powerful and unpredictable rock export, Full Flower Moon Band, return with provocation disguised as a banger – and they’ve brought Nicholas Allbrook (POND) along for the ride. Harder Man - out 15 August, is a glam-drenched dancefloor drama pulsing with desire, chemistry and theatrical flair, spotlighting Allbrook’s unmistakable falsetto and Babyshakes Dillon’s drag-in-her-mind vocal performance.
Following the runaway success of their ARIA #1 Australian album MEGAFLOWER, the band continues to push sonic and thematic boundaries. Harder Man is a swaggering, seductive track pulsing with tension, chemistry, and theatrical flair. Inspired by a scene of two men locking eyes across a dancefloor, the song explores desire and awakening through an unfiltered rock lens.
Frontwoman Babyshakes Dillon describes “I see the song as a scene on a dancefloor of two men realising that they are attracted to each other - a sexual awakening." She adds, “Explaining that to Nick was pretty funny, saying point blank that the lyric ‘I’m a harder man from love' is a sexual innuendo. There is just no professional way to say it.”
Allbrook’s first impressions of the song? “Bad ass, short, quite homoerotic,” adding, “It’s awesome. This song's great. It’s really different from everything else I’ve heard from the band. Kate wanted me to be in it, I don’t know why. But I’m honoured.”
Elevating the track with his signature flamboyance and falsetto prowess, Allbrook explains, “If Kate didn’t want her music described as horny, she shouldn’t have made it sound so horny” - while Dillon’s own vocals enter a “singing in drag in my mind” territory, adding layers of performance, gender-play and wit.
Long-time fans of POND (and recently sharing the stage with them for a leg of their Aus tour) Babyshakes describes having Allbrook feature as “an honour”, continuing that the collaboration “was really make or break for the song getting made because, I knew it needed to be a man, and I truly don’t know another male vocalists who can hit those high notes with his swagger - when I sent him the track it almost felt like a challenge like… how high can you sing?.”
Mixed by Tony Buchen, mastered by Steve Smart, and tracked by Marly Lüske, with Allbrook’s vocals recorded by long-time collaborator Jay Watson, Harder Man marks a faster, more urgent, high-voltage track for the group that still holds all the theatrical charm they’re known for.
A stylish video clip directed by Alex Haygarth (Allbrook’s long-time visual collaborator) is set to accompany the single. “Getting Alex on board felt perfect. He understands Nick’s world and helped capture the sweaty, charged energy of the song,” says Dillon.
With the might of POND's legacy, FFMB’s cult energy, and a full creative team behind it, Harder Man is an unforgettable moment where two of Australia’s most distinctive voices collide.
