Boorloo/Perth-based singer-songwriter Stacey Ann returns with a personal and powerful new release: Amputation - out 29 August. A lush, soul-infused indie-pop single exploring the grief and clarity that can come with walking away from a once-cherished friendship.
Since her national TV debut on Telethon in 2023, Stacey Ann has steadily built momentum. Her debut EP, released in early 2024, marked a major step forward, earning her first triple j airplay, growing her streaming base, and cementing her as a staple of the WA live scene. With appearances at Nannup Music Festival, RTRFM Winter Music Festival, and a string of sold-out local supports, Stacey Ann has become known for her intimate lyricism, expressive stage presence, and dazzling vocal range.
Drenched in catharsis, Amputation pairs Stacey’s soaring, honeyed vocals with vibrant layered instrumentation, subtle synths, and organic percussion, echoing the sounds of Middle Kids, Florence and the Machine, and The Last Dinner Party. Emotionally direct and musically dynamic, it’s a track that balances tenderness and power, delivered with the same elegance and vibrancy that Stacey Ann brings to every performance.
“Amputation is about the breakdown of a deeply meaningful long-term friendship,” Stacey shares. “It’s about the heartbreaking feeling you get when you realise something or someone isn’t good for you anymore and you have to let it go. It feels like a breakup. I wrote the song to process the realisation of how toxic the friendship had become, and the heartbreak that came with extending an olive branch and being cut away - like an amputation.”
The track also holds special meaning in Stacey’s creative evolution, Amputation being the first song she’s ever written on guitar. Stacey shares, “During the process of learning guitar, I ended up forming this chord progression and writing this song.”
What began as a therapeutic release eventually blossomed into a fully-fledged track recorded over multiple sessions with longtime collaborator and producer Michael Strong. Subtle sonic details, such as kalimba melodies, warm backing harmonies, and the joyful tingle of a hand-held egg shaker (“the egg of joy”) give the track both sparkle and emotional gravity.
Following her debut EP release and a whirlwind year supporting the likes of Katie Noonan, Riley Pearce, Joan & The Giants, and Ghost Care, Stacey Ann continues to prove herself as a vital voice in Australia’s emerging pop-soul scene.
A vocal advocate for honesty, self-love, and emotional resilience, Stacey’s work resonates with fans seeking more than just a catchy tune, and Amputation is no exception.
Amputation will be celebrated with a launch, 12 September at The Bird, Northbridge, WA, with special guests. Launch assets HERE & more info via: Oztix
