Sound States returns in 2026, continuing its mission to empower the next generation of Western Australian artists and artist managers with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to take control of their careers.
Presented by 360 Artist Logistics, the three-day mentorship program is open to early-career artists and managers at all stages of their journey. For the first time, applications are now open to artists regardless of whether they are self-managed or already working with a manager, expanding access to those ready to deepen their understanding of the music industry and their place within it.
Taking place from Monday 29 June to Wednesday 1 July 2026 at the State Library of Western Australia, Sound States delivers an immersive, hands-on experience designed to challenge traditional industry narratives and break down the myth of gatekeepers.
Across three full days, participants will engage directly with a curated lineup of mentors who have built successful, independent careers from the ground up. Through a mix of workshops, panel discussions, and open conversations, attendees will gain real-world insights into DIY career development, audience building, and sustainable pathways within the music industry.
From artist managers and self-managed artists to publicists, booking agents, and industry specialists, Sound States offers a rare opportunity to learn from professionals who have forged their own paths, sharing both their successes and the realities behind them.
The program is free for successful applicants, with places available for both metro and regional participants. Travel, accommodation, and ground transport will be provided for eligible regional attendees.
Eligibility Criteria - to apply, you must:
Be a Western Australian resident
Be currently active in the music industry
Manage at least one artist (including your own project) or be an artist with a manager
Be over 18 years of age
Not have participated in Sound States previously
Regional applicants (living more than 75km from Perth) are eligible for travel and accommodation support.
