Selfless Orchestra ‘Terra Nullius’ Embodied & Boss Arts Creative Showcase

A New Collaborative Dance Work by Selfless Orchestra, Boss Arts Creative and Sarah Francis

Terra Nullius: Embodied is the powerful new collaborative performance work from Selfless Orchestra, Boss Arts Creative choreographer Sarah Francis reimagining the ensemble’s acclaimed album Terra Nullius as an immersive, physical experience.

Blending contemporary dance, live orchestral performance, and storytelling, Terra Nullius: Embodied explores the ongoing impacts of colonisation, cultural erasure and the living relationship between people and Country. This premiere presentation transforms Selfless Orchestra’s cinematic post rock into a living, breathing narrative, where bodies move with history, resistance and truth.

Through movement and music, the work expands on the album’s themes, honouring the resilience of Aboriginal communities and the deep knowledge of Elders who continue to hold their stories.

Selfless Orchestra is a post-rock ensemble based in WA, known for immersive performances that fuse live music with cinematic visuals to inspire environmental and social justice. Featuring members from Perth Symphony Orchestra, Karnivool, Injured Ninja, Usurper of Modern Medicine, Last Quokka, and more, the group’s debut release Great Barrier (2020) raised funds and awareness for reef restoration projects on the Great Barrier Reef. With Terra Nullius, Selfless Orchestra expands its vision—uniting musicians, dancers, visual artists and First Nations collaborators in a multidisciplinary experience that challenges, uplifts, and remembers.

BOSS ARTS CREATIVE

A First Nations-led not-for-profit organisation dedicated to breaking down barriers that prevent First Nations communities from engaging in the arts and culture. We founded Boss Arts Creative because we noticed a distinct lack of First Nations students studying the arts at the university level, particularly in dance, singing, and music. We realized that many First Nations children lack access to early training in these art forms, which children from other cultures in Australia often have. This training is often necessary to enter prestigious institutions, leaving First Nations young people at a disadvantage.
