Yawn Vibes recently released their debut album Never End on 26 September, marking a major milestone for the Boorloo/ Perth five-piece. Known for their ability to pair honest lyricism with jangly, guitar-driven indie-rock, the album distils five years of writing, recording, collaboration, change, highs and lows into 10 remarkable tracks.

Formed in 2019 as a collaboration between Taylah McLean (Serpentine Falls) and Chris O’Dea (JOYS), Yawn Vibes has grown into a full band featuring Rleanne Evangelista (JOYS), Jess Nyanda Naanod Moyle (Jocelyn’s Baby) and Ryan K Brennan (Phantastic Ferniture). Together, they’ve crafted a sound that balances jangle-pop grit with expansive indie-rock warmth. Equal parts tender and fierce, sardonic yet hopeful.

Drawing inspiration from artists like The Magnetic Fields and The Replacements and having been compared to Mazzy Star and Beach House, Yawn Vibes deliver songs that speak to the complexities of being alive in the modern world.

Their upcoming album, Never End, spans almost five years and has been shaped by personal milestones, global uncertainty, and enduring friendship. Lead songwriter and vocalist Taylah McLean reflects:

“This album is a testament to making things with the people you love, even when life continues to throw curveballs. We started this album in October 2019, having recorded the single Stadium a few months prior to the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic and just after recording the world went into lockdown. The years that followed saw us writing and recording tracks for the album, finishing it off in 2023.

We recorded the bulk of the songs at Golding Sounds studio in West Perth. Across these years, members of the band celebrated marriages, started families, graduated from degrees, lost loved ones, moved across cities and states and looking back on this time I feel deeply grateful that I got to make art with my friends throughout the highs and lows of my 20’s. The album inherently captures that period of my life for me, and all the change that it brought with it.”

Produced, mixed and mastered by Ryan K Brennan, Never End features guest appearances from David West (vocals on Smoke & Mirrors) and Blake Robertson-Hall (brass on Fast Lane). The album artwork was shot and designed by David West alongside McLean.

With singles lifted already from the LP: Stadium, Hometown and Fast Lane already received strong support from local community radio like RTRFM, and Triple J Unearthed, Yawn Vibes continue to expand their place in the Great Australian Indie Songbook with Never End, capturing both the sting of nostalgia and the rush of possibility.
